My name is Chelsea. I am filling in for Caleb over the next few weeks. Caleb is studying for finals and therefore elected to sit out the next few weeks. In the meantime, I’m in charge of Conservative Textbook.
Are Christian schools in CA being forced to conform to the standards (liberal leanings) established by the University of CA (UC) school system? Will Christian and home school students hoping to attend one of the many University of CA’s colleges be denied admission or be required to take additional courses because their school system used science, history, government , or literature textbooks based on a Christian worldview?
Calvary Chapel Christian School (CCCS) of Murietta, CA, the Assoc. of Christian Schools International, and several CCCS students and their parents filed a lawsuit in August against the UC alleging their 14th and 1st amendments rights have been violated. On October 28, UC filed a motion that the case be dismissed on grounds that the plaintiffs ‘claims’ fail as a matter of law. A hearing on this motion is scheduled for Dec. 12. Will CA Christian school and home schools have to lower their educational standards by using textbooks used by their lower-scoring peers?
Lets examine a few facts.
1. Bob Jones University Press and A.Beka Books are the 2 largest Christian textbook publishers. Both publishing companies have had textbooks rejected by the UC school system.
2. UC officials question if these publishers provide a “comprehensive view of relevant subject mater.” UC officials further state “Publishers acknowledge that the primary goal is to teach religious doctrine rather than the scholarship that is generally accepted in the relevant fields of study.”
3. Bob Jones University Press (BJU Press) states its key educational points are to provide a Biblical worldview in all subject matters, promote critical thinking and encourage the love of learning. In a 2000-2001 study, BJU Press was the only Christian publisher out of more than 150 that showed any significant increase in test scores in the upper grades especially college prep (11-12th grades). BJU Press emphasizes that its curriculum meets or exceeds all national education standards.
4. ACSI member schools demonstrated higher test scores by 18-26% on the Stanford Achievement Test in spring of 2005. In general, Christian school students tend to be educated and out-performed their public school counterparts.
So why is the UC forcing their standards on Christian schools? It’s the public schools that have a broken system – not the Christian schools. UC wants God (the God of the Bible) out of the school system. God has been removed from the public school, so the next target is Christian schools, then home schools.
As I read various articles (both pros and cons), it became very clear. The universities in America (not just arrogant UC) want to indoctrinate college students to follow university ideologies such as evolution, multiculturalism, socialism, feminism, and all religions (except Christianity), etc.
The UC school system wants to practice censorship in the name of scholarship, of course. Prof. Ward Churchill ( Univ. of Colo.) can tell us all about scholarship. Ha-ha!
My advice-every student in private, Christian, or home schools-go to this court hearing and bring your signs, too! Let your voice be heard. UC wants to crush the Christian school system in CA.
Stop this censorship action now!
Let freedom for all, including Christians, ring!
