12% think America is defeated

From Us and Them: The terrorists realize now that they can’t defeat our military. Instead, they hope to achieve what the North Vietnamese did: To blur the reality on the ground and convince the American public that we’re losing.

That was in a recent post I linked too here. That one sentence spoke volumes to me. If you read the comments to that post or liberal blogs in general you see that the terrorist' propaganda machine is working for a small minority of people in this country. Some on the left are fond of throwing around statements like "the Majority of Americans believe the war is lost" I never thought that was true and contributed it to a defeatist attitude and belief in a misguided political belief. This was just an opinion I held, today,however, there is a new poll out asking the question of whether Americans thinks we are defeated and should surrender to the terrorist'.

August 26, 2005--Just 12% of Americans believe that withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq will stop terror attacks like the summer bombings in London. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 71% disagree and say that troop withdrawal will not lead to an end of terrorist attacks.

The survey also found that 54% of Americans believe the situation will get worse in Iraq if U.S. troops are withdrawn. Twenty percent (20%) believe the situation will get better in Iraq if American troops leave, while 15% believe that bringing home the troops will have no impact.

Thankfully the Propaganda machine in use by the media, the terrorist' and liberal bloggers hasn't reached the rest of America yet, but it can and it most likely will. don't underestimate the danger of that and what it could mean to our very way of life if it is ever allowed to take root and grow unchecked here.

We are fighting an enemy abroad that desires to kill everyone that doesn't believe in their particular version of Islam, here or there, and an enemy at home that feels comfortable spouting their propaganda for them. This is a dangerous double edged sword, it is one however that America has dealt with before. I can only hope that those who use the terrorist' propaganda to try to achieve a personal held political belief understand the danger, standing outside a Military hospital with a sign that says "Maimed for a lie" speaks much louder on Al-Jazeera than it does on American television. I call those particular people the American arm of Al-Qaeda's propaganda machine, Unknowing partners, but partners none the less.

One way to defeat the propaganda machine is by shining a light on the truth, The truth shall set you free brother. So while the belief of some might be that America is defeated and should surrender to the terrorist' there is little basis in fact for that particular line of thought.

Furthermore while some might believe that pulling out of Iraq before we win is a good thing history doesn't look kindly on cowardice either.
