Liberal vs. Republican

I watched an episode of Wife Swap tonight. It was quite entertaining. A Republican woman had to trade with a very liberal woman. Of course, both families had their issues. The Republican family was strict, had their kids in sports and weren't really teaching them how to deal well with winning and losing nor giving them other outlets besides the sports. The father was the coach, very hard on his own kid on the field and it did show in the kids stance each time the father would come down on him. Their lives revolved around baseball which in itself isn't really healthy. The liberal woman had changed the rules regarding baseball and the father and sons disobeyed on the first day....they were punished by having to post signs in their yard saying "No Baseball" or "Winning isn't everything".

The liberal family, well, the father and the mother were punked out. The father with a mohawk and both were littered with tattoos. Their son also had a mohawk and a very foul mouth to boot. Both of their children were extremely disrespectful, lazy, no direction, and the boy had pounded nails in the heads and bodies of his action figures while he thought about death. I will add that all the children involved were between 9-12. The mom worked 8 hour days six days a week while the father stayed at home and slept and did nothing. He was also very combative and pretty much told the woman upon meeting her that he hated Republicans. I will add also that the father of the liberal family said to the camera that he doesn't believe in rules and that the kids should be able to make their own choices. This little boy said to the camera that he hates Republicans which at the age of 10 a child barely knows the meaning of the word unless of course they're indoctrinated with this information. This family also took their kids to punk concerts with lewd behavior going on off stage and litter lying all over the ground. It was quite disgusting. And I will mention also that their house was quite dirty as well.

Scary at best. In the end the Republican family allowed their son to ease up on the baseball fetish and to learn how to play guitar. They loosened it up. The liberal father took on a photography job---BRAVO-- and began working in corporate America AND he began chipping in around the house with laundry, cleaning, etc. Their son was also allowed to join baseball and was smiling from ear to ear by the end of the show. Before that, well, he was a very angry, very unhappy little boy.

Overall, both families made some solid changes in their families. And good ones at that. What I found to be truly shocking though...well, maybe not... was how sensitive and defensive the liberal father was, how quick he was to judge this woman, how intolerant he was to simply one week of change. And most importantly, how he would snap at this Republican woman when she would simply VOICE that she didn't agree with something. And this was on national television for all to see.

Too bad they don't run polls for this kind of thing. I would be interested to see the results.

It's too bad that they had to pick a bad liberal family to choose from...I know plenty of liberal families that aren't on an antarchist view.
