William Jefferson, D-LA

ABCNews reports that Democrat(ic) Representative William Jefferson has used the National Guard (two heavy trucks, a helicopter and their crews) to check on his property and rescue his personal belongings amid the continued chaos and confusion of Katrina's aftermath... all while New Orleans residents were still hoping to be rescued from their rooftops.

Rep. Jefferson, a senior member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and eight-term Democrat(ic) Congressman, seems to have found the way and the means to get through military blockades and asked the Guardsmen to take him to his affluent uptown neighborhood.

With water breaching Jefferson's third-step, the military vehicle pulled onto Jefferson's lawn so the good Congressman wouldn't have to get his feet wet. Jefferson then spent about an hour in his home recovering personal belongings while he left the National Guard waiting at his front porch.

Now, if we could just get two 2-ton trucks and a helicopter to escort a member of every household affected by the floods, we'd be good to go!

Meanwhile, Jefferson's re-election committee is considering slogans for his next Congressional run... Insiders tell me they can't get past their new favorite, "Hooray for Jefferson! Screw you!"

Oh... and you know damned good and well - if Jefferson were white, we'd be hearing about racism - so screw the opportunists who are holding the Race-Card, itching to play it like a nervous scrabble player with a handful of Q's and Z's.
