There is only one way to put a stop to the international terrorism that has been credited with bombings in New York City, Madrid, and London. Remember, these are people who are not only killing citizens of the western powers, but are wearing out horses killing Muslim citizens in Arab countries as well. How many Iraqi civilian deaths are at their hands? And this week we had the abduction and murder of the top Egyptian diplomat to Iraq with the threat that any Arab nation that supports the new government in Iraq will have its diplomats meet the same fate.
The post starts out well enough, and in that single paragraph she seems to have a realistic look at the problem, it is only after you get to the next few paragraphs thats she spins off into fantasy-land, It is when she says this that i had to stop take a minute and point her in the direction of some factual information that she obviously missed in her research:
Her quote: But instead of investing this international political currency wisely, Mr. Bush saw fit to downplay Afghanistan and focus the brunt of our armed forces on a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11. While the nations that did harbor and support the terrorists, Pakistan, Iran, and Saudi Arabia were left alone, Bush hammered Iraq
Seems she is starting to believe her own propaganda, Here are some facts. first a timeline of some of the more horrific of jihadist attacks on westerners found at the Sun Online (Via Powerline)
1. FEB 26 1993: Six people killed by a 500kg bomb beneath the World Trade Center in New York.
2 DEC 11 1994: Explosion on a Philippine Airlines jet bound for Tokyo killed one and injured ten.
3. JUN 25 1996: Nineteen US servicemen killed in Dharan, Saudi Arabia, when their housing complex was blown up by a suicide bomber.
4. AUG 7 1998: American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania attacked in suicide truck bombings. Around 230 people died.
5. SEP 11 2001: 2,986 people killed as hijacked planes are flown into New York’s Twin Towers and the US Pentagon, and in a fourth hijacked airliner.
Left off that list of course is the murder of olympians in 1972 and the Direct attack on the United States via the USS Cole (Un responded too at the time, We did send some missiles in to destroy a terrorist training camp and aspirin factory that had long since been deserted.)
She then tries to say that Iraq had no ties to Terrorism, this is the favored propaganda talking point from those on the extreme left, it is also the most easily refuted. and today via In the Bullpen i find a link that will hopefully stop that particular falsehood once and for all, It is from the Fine bloggers over at The Pink Flamingo Bar and Grill Here is a snippet, The reading comprehension is up to you:
But one realization set in even before the first showdown in Kuwait in 91 was that Iraq was no match for the US. Saddam was fully aware of this fact when he warned Ambassador Glaspie that while his armies could not reach the US individual Arabs could.
On July 25,President Saddam Hussein of Iraq summoned the United States Ambassador to Baghdad, April Glaspie If you use pressure, we will deploy pressure and force. We know that you can harm us although we do not threaten you. But we too can harm you. Everyone can cause harm according to their ability and their size. We cannot come all the way to you in the United States, but individual Arabs may reach you.
One may wonder exactly why we didn't take this threat seriously but hubris seems likely the best reason........Below you will find a list of evidence that can only lead to one conclusion, Saddam was serious about his threat. You may say there is no proof and I will say naturally the man was no fool. Make sure you read the definitions of evidence and proof.
Hope that clears it up for you.
UPDATE: In case the link wasn't clear above here it is again: Connections between Al Queda and Saddam
UPDATE 2: Pointed out in the comments is the fact that i didn't link to the article i was referring to. My apologies. The article is from a blog called The Blue voice. Here is the link to the article
