Over at the Blue Voice, the obsession with the religious right continues unabated.
Marcia Ellen loves free speech so much that she used the word "stupid" no less than 10 times in a post about parents at a private religious school that were not thrilled about having the children of a homosexual couple at their school. I personally wouldn't have cared, but like Marcia Ellen, those people were exercising their right to free speech at a private school.
Exercising their right to free speech, of course, makes them stupid bigots, according to Marica Ellen. So, in her mind, freedom of speech good but freedom of association bad. No doubt she would support strong armed state tactics to force those people to associate with her.
And they call her angry. Sheesh.
Bruce (mistakenly attributed to fdtate originally) continues along the same vein, although without the stupid tag, but he does stick with the bigot description...for supporting welfare reform.
When Christian Right leaders are ready to start challenging the prejudices of their white conservative base supporters by demanding removal of the draconian and impractical work requirements of the 1990's welfare reform, or by lobbying for vastly expanded federal job-training programs, then I'll start to wonder if they can't get beyond their narrow focus.
Expecting able-bodied people to work is now the attitude of a bigot. Interesting. A statistic for all from the Department of Health and Human Services:
"welfare reform helped to move 4.7 million Americans from welfare dependency to self-sufficiency within three years of enactment, and the number of welfare caseloads has declined by 54% since 1996."
People with jobs does tend to put a dent in the socialist eutopia don't they?
Bruce undoubtedly thinks it would be much better for those people to be out of work and utterly dependant on Democratic hand-outs, as opposed to employed, participating in the economy, paying taxes and more inclined to vote conservative.
All those people who were sucking off the system are now employed, and it's all the "religious rights" fault!

Ok, I'm tired. I don't have the energy to copy and paste my American Dream rant from Dave's post back into yours, but I'll give you this much.
Wealth redistribution IS the American Dream and we OWE deadbeats everything we've worked our asses off for.

The march towards "everything for free, and everything for everyone.." continues here in Arizona. The horrible Right-Wing factions were blasted recently by Socialist groups calling for increased subsidies in air-conditioning utilities, claiming they were a "necessity" for people in the Southwest. This, despite the fact that the entire region was previously inhabited (quite nicely, thank-you) by people who's idea of cool air was the breath of a Gila Monster across their furrowed and dusty brow.
Candy-ass bastards.
